The Love of God

1 John 4:19: "We love because he first loved us."

As I was observing my granddaughter Eden, a few weeks ago; I was taken back by the picture her mommy took of her and her dad. I could feel the love in my heart for Eden and all of my family. This picture speaks volumns to me. However, to think that God loves us so much more than we could ever love our children and grandchildren. He loves us with an everlasting love. He loved us even before we were born. To describe God's love is endless. It is much more than our minds can comprehend.

No one feels our every pain and delights in our happiness like God. No one longs to shower us with gifts as much as God. The awesome God of Perfection, for whom nothing is impossible loves us far more than any human love. Eden's dad loves her very much as you can see through the embrace of his little girl in this awesome snapshot.

The Divine love is subject to no vicissitudes. Divine love is "strong as death ... many waters cannot quench it" (Song of Sol. 8:6,7). Nothing can separate from it: Romans 8:35-39.

At the age of twelve years old I was asked to quote the song,"The Love of God." It took me days to memorize those few verses and yet every time I said it there was a deeper love in my heart for that song, which talked about God's wonderful sacrificial love. Even today, I find my self not only quoting this song but singing it. It was called, "The Love of God, by Federick M. Lehman. One of the verses goes like this, "Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made, were every stalk on earth a quill, and every man a scribe by trade; To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry; Nor could the scroll contain the whole, though stretched from sky to sky. Oh, love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure—The saints’ and angels’ song."

Most of us imagine that in God’s eyes we are just one of millions. We convince our-self that most people don’t think we are important and so we assume God thinks of us in a similar way. But then, again, God is not like most people. God says you are special and He loves you with an everlasting love! It took Him all the way to the cross, but He proved it!

Amen,
Joan
